Four Across has no accounts to sign up for, no advertising, and no analytics or tracking software of any kind. It contains no third-party code that phones home, because it contains no third-party code. This page even loads its own stylesheet from our own server rather than a font or analytics CDN.
The first time you open Four Across it generates a random identifier and keeps it on your device. That identifier is what your puzzle progress is filed under on our server. Attached to it are:
That is the entire list. We do not ask for your name, your email address, your phone number or your date of birth, and there is nowhere in the app to give them to us.
If you share an invite code and solve a floor together, the others in that room see your display name and the letters you write, while you are in the room together. That is the whole point of the room. Nothing about them is kept on your device, or about you on theirs.
Saving past puzzles for offline play keeps them on your device only. A puzzle you solve without a connection is held on the device until you are back online, at which point the completed grid is sent to our server so the day can be marked as solved. Nothing else goes with it.
Until you delete it. Your progress is meant to last — a collection that forgot itself would not be a collection.
In the app: Settings → Delete my account. This erases your gems, tiles, collection, floor progress and solved days from our server immediately and permanently, and clears the identifier from your device. There is no recovery and no grace period.

The app is suitable for all ages and collects nothing that identifies anybody, of any age.
On a single server we rent and administer ourselves, reached over an encrypted connection. No third-party hosting of your data, no cloud analytics account, nothing copied anywhere else.
If this ever changes we will date it again at the top, and if the change is material we will say so in the app rather than hope you reread this page.
